Music with Mummy and Jolly Babies at The Spark

Take your child on a musical journey with lively, fun classes, full of singing, movement and percussion.

Fabulous fun for babies and children from birth until school with their Mummy, Daddy, Grandma and all.

'Jolly Babies' and 'Music with Mummy' provide a range of educational and fun music classes, specially designed for babies, toddlers and pre-school children.

'Music with Mummy' is a long established and well respected early years musical education programme that has been running for 25 years around the UK and for over 10 years in South Devon.

The music we use is a mix of traditional nursery rhymes and songs, along with an enormous repertoire of original music that has been specifically composed to be sung with very young babies, through to toddling toddlers and also with exuberant pre-schoolers!

There are two different sessions available for your little ones:

JOLLY BABIES is where our musical journey begins specifically designed for babies aged from just 12 weeks up to 15 months, and then, once they are confident on their feet and ready to explore the world, they move up to the next stage of sessions:

MUSIC with MUMMY,  which is a lively and fun, yet carefully structured programme that will take your child from first steps through to being ready for big school.

Our primary aim is for children and their families to enjoy taking part in musical activities together and to continue that throughout their lives. But we also incorporate many other learning opportunities each week into our fun and lively music sessions, developing language and communication, and encouraging good social skills such as sharing, taking turns, saying please and thank you, and tidying up.

In addition, we take the time to build your child’s confidence and independence through music, movement and drama according to your child’s individual stage of development, learning early musical concepts such as pulse, pitch and rhythm along the way.

Our classes are different to some other music groups that you may have heard about because of our carefully structured two-yearly cycle of themes that have been chosen to be engaging and particularly relevant to our very young pupils, and which is also one of the reasons that discerning parents often choose our programme and style of class for their children.

We teach the children about simple musical concepts by moving our bodies, and through making and listening to music, and fostering a thoughtful yet fun attitude towards all different types of musical styles. In addition, our carefully planned class structure benefits all children by encouraging listening and concentration, helping them learn about waiting, sharing and taking turns, tidying up and also working and playing together as part of a team

We keep our classes deliberately small with a maximum of 10 in all groups to enable even the shyest and quietest of children to have their turn without fear of being overlooked or missing out, and we take the time to help develop your child’s confidence and find their inner voice through our fun and lively musical activities. And if your child is already brimming with confidence and enthusiasm, they will definitely enjoy all the action songs, musical instruments, and jumping around that we do!

The music part of the session is about 40 minutes for Jolly Babies and Music with Mummy but we always say to parents to allow an hour as there is also time for to arrive and settle down and have a quick chat with everyone before and after the class so that you do not feel rushed. Our sessions are meant to be a relaxed and enjoyable experience for everyone, children and adults alike, so please feel at your ease whilst at class – we’re all parents and understand what it’s like!

Something that is often asked, is whether Daddy can come too?

OF COURSE! Daddies are always welcome, as are Grandparents, Aunties, Uncles, and Childminders and Nannies. Our music classes welcome everyone who wants to come!
