Cancelled - Lighting of the Brixham Beacon by Tashi Lhunpo Tibetan Monks at Lupton House

UPDATE:   SADLY, BECAUSE OF THE BAD WEATHER, THE LIGHTING OF THE BRIXHAM BEACON AFTER THE MONKS PERFORMANCE HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

WATCH THIS SPACE FOR DETAILS OF A REVISED TIMETABLE IN THE SPRING WHEN THE MEDITATION WALK IS COMPLETED.

Following the performance by the Tibetan monks of Tashi Lhunpo Monastery at Lupton House, there will be a lighting of the BATS Brixham Beacon at 9 pm.

The Beacon was commissioned by BATS to replace the old beacon struck by lightning on Berry Head.  However, it proved impossible to erect a new beacon there because of the changing regulations regarding the care of the rare Horseshoe bats on the headland.

Following the highly successful WW1 Armistice Commemoration in 2018 at Shoalstone Pool, BATS have been seeking a place in Brixham that the beacon could be sited on for use in future national chain of light commemorations.

Sadly this proved impossible, due to threats of vandalism and opposition from local residents and landowners.

However, BATS has now found a secure and highly suitable setting for the beautiful artwork beacon at Lupton House, where the beacon will form the centrepiece of a new Meditation Walk, to be constructed in Spring 2020.

The Brixham Beacon will be made available for use by community groups or Brixham Town Council to form part of a chain of lights for national commemorations in the future, subject to arrangement with Lupton House Trust.

The Tibetan monks will be dedicating and lighting the beacon after their performance as part of the start of creating the Meditation Walk. Audience members and interested people are invited to join us in the ceremony.

Please be aware that the ground may be very wet and slippery underfoot and wear suitable clothing and footwear.
