Brixham Blues Club

Brixham Blues Club is run by Stuart Cumberpatch and Anne Massey.

Anne organises and communicates and Stuart - a renowned and talented slide and lap-steel maestro – is founder of The Boal Weevils, the club’s resident band.

The club meets from 8pm on the SECOND TUESDAY of each month at the Birdcage, when an average of between 40 and 50 enthusiasts enjoy FREE blues music from both the Weevils and visiting blues players who come from as far afield as Somerset and Exeter (as well as Paignton, Newton Abbot and Torquay) to perform for free and help to keep authentic blues music alive.

Audience members (and The Birdcage) donate raffle prizes and the money raised is used to pay for occasional guest appearances by top blues artists from further afield.

Multi-talented Stuart, a keen photographer, also designs the monthly posters and flyers. These are so admired that the club has had a problem with them vanishing before the event!
Stuart says: “I’ve played country blues music for more than 30 years with many different bands and Andy Boal, Anne and I and visiting blues players are happy donate our talents for free to promote the authentic blues and gospel sound which forms the roots of jazz, rock and soul music.

“The audience usually comprises more women than men and it’s a really friendly crowd, so blues fans and floor spot players shouldn’t be nervous about coming along.”
