Brixham Comedy Grove

Brixham Theatre’s popular Comedy Grove returns with stars of the professional comedy circuit on Saturday 13 February at 8 pm.

This gig will feature four top comedians and will be another night of quick fire response and fun, compered by the witty lady who had the audience roaring with laughter at the opening Brixham Comedy Grove night in October last year, Cerys Nelmes.

With her first comedy gig being at the Leicester Comedy Festival, Cerys soared to the semi-finals of So You Think You're Funny 2011. She is fast becoming one of the best female MCs in the country and is now established as the Brixham Comedy resident host.

After only six months of starting comedy, Jake Lambert made it to the Semi-final of The BBC New Comedy Award, allowing him to then perform on both BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 2.

In December 2014 he was nominated for the Leicester Mercury New Comedian of The Year, and six months later nominated for the Magners New Comedian of the Year, as well as being a finalist for the English Comedian of the Year 2015.

After those stellar line-ups, what do people think of Jake?

"Brilliant one-liners" - Chortle.

"An abundance of one-liners, clever wordplay, short stories and strange thoughts which deliver a constant stream of laughter." - Comedy Cow.

"Destined for big things" - Laughing Badger Comedy.

George Rigden is a Bristol-based musical comic who, despite having only been gigging since 2013, has already racked up in excess of 200 gigs and enjoyed success in a clutch of competitions. He’s gigged with the likes of Russell Howard, Stephen Merchant & Joe Wilkinson, and is the resident M.C. for legendary Bristol night, OPPO.

In 2015 George made his Edinburgh Fringe debut, having beaten off stiff competition to win a place in Bound & Gagged Comedy's prestigious showcase 'AAA' at The Pleasance Edinburgh.

George uses his guitar to deliver jokes in song-form, but it’s not everyday stuff – his persona is contrasting and wildly entertaining to watch. His self-deprecation will garner sympathy one minute before expertly smashing any of it to bits with a hefty dose of belligerence.

“George Rigden has to be one of our favourite new comedians. Musical, personable and cheeky.” Mark Makin, co-director, Cheltenham & Leamington Spa Comedy Festivals

“Managed to combine the bombast of Mitch Benn with the creepiness of Earl Okin" - Julia Chamberlain, Chortle

"Certainly a name to watch out for in the future." - Bristol Culture

A true observational comic, Junior Simpson finds his humor in the everyday and humdrum, with anecdotes of his world travels as a comedian adding a personal originality to his set.

With his infectious energy and huge stage presence, he is a comedy circuit favourite, with a boundless joy and exuberance that has audiences hooked with hilarity.

“Having survived being called ”the new Lenny Henry” (he’s much funnier than that), lapsed choirboy Junior Simpson is a true star of both the black comic firmament and far beyond.”  -  The Comedy Club

“My highlight was Junior Simpson. A vigorous raconteur and vibrant mimic with lots to say. Watch that Man!”  - The Guardian

“Regular contributor with The Cutting Edge Team. A top-class performer, Junior’s quick wit and irresistible energy are unforgettable and truly addictive.” – The Comedy Store

“One of the most sought after acts in the country… Brilliant performer, destined for great things.” - The Glee Club
