England, 1400. Thomas Mendip, a discharged soldier weary of the world and eager to leave it, comes to a small town, insisting he has committed murder and demands to be hanged.

Much to his annoyance, the town’s Mayor denies his request and instead is determined to burn Jennet, an attractive woman accused of witchcraft, because her property will then go to the town!.

Amidst the confusion of the dilemma of who will or won’t be executed in the morning and the hilarious activities of the wider characters an unlikely wooing takes place…
